Meet Steven
Steven C. Toups, a native of Beaumont, Texas, has dedicated his career to fighting for the rights of Southeast Texans. Growing up in a community he loves, Steven's strong work ethic was evident from a young age. He started working at the age of 12 by cutting grass in his neighborhood and later took on a job at a local grocery store at age 15.
Despite financial challenges, Steven chose to stay close to home for his education and attended Lamar University, graduating with high honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting while working nearly 30 hours per week year-round. His dedication earned him the title of Outstanding Member of the Lamar graduating class of 1987.
Steven's pursuit of excellence continued as he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1990. During his time in law school, he worked as a law clerk for the esteemed Houston trial lawyer firm of Giessel, Stone, Barker & Lyman, where he learned from some of the best in the field, including the legendary Henry Giessel. His hard work and commitment led to a full-time position with the firm upon graduation.

In 1994, Steven returned to Beaumont to join the law firm of Weller, Green, Toups, and Terrell, a firm committed to helping seriously injured individuals. His dedication to his clients quickly became evident, and in 1995, Steven and his partner Edward Green secured a $4.8 million verdict on behalf of an oilfield operator. This included $3 million in punitive damages against a large
national oil and gas pipeline company.
Steven's leadership and legal prowess have been instrumental in the success of Weller, Green, Toups, and Terrell. In 2009, he became the managing partner, a role he has held for over 15 years. Under his management, the firm has collected hundreds of millions of dollars for injured clients, including countless Southeast Texans. Steven has specialized in serious injury cases, handling numerous 18-wheeler accidents, auto accidents, wrongful death, admiralty/maritime incidents, industrial accidents, burns, and explosion cases.

His outstanding contributions to the legal profession have been recognized by Texas Monthly Magazine, which named him a Texas Rising Star, placing him in the top 2.5% of up-and-coming lawyers in the state.
